Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for providing strategic leadership and management for a multi-year Loss Analytics and Reserving Modernization initiative. This role will serve as the Actuarial business representative responsible for developing a strategy and roadmap for modernizing Loss Analytics end-to-end reserving processes including data, systems, tools, and reporting. The successful candidate will ensure efficient and effective operations that incorporate emerging technologies into the reserving and reserving analytics operations. Partnering across the Enterprise with various teams to achieve goals will be essential.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities


Plan business and technical modernization activities: define project approach, scope, milestones, success criteria, deliverables, risks, contingencies and identifying appropriate resource requirements to ensure project success.
Create and sustain a high-performing, cross-organizational business and technical modernization team.
Build and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders.
Coordinate a multi-year Loss Analytics modernization project from conceptual design to implementation.
Assess, prioritize, influence and communicate strategic initiative options to senior leaders.
Demonstrate effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects.
Generate and advocate for process improvements and actively propel innovation in alignment with existing strategy.
This position will lead assigned unit strategic initiatives and cross-unit initiatives and is expected to participate in Enterprise initiatives on a limited basis.


Independently perform actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems and apply judgment appropriately.
Drive day to day execution within unit. Begin to drive broad department initiatives.
Promote efficiency across primary working group, balancing additional effort against incremental lift gained from work.
Make decisions independently in accordance with department practices.
Consistently provide direction and review others' analytical work.
Begin to translate ambiguous business needs into analytical solutions.
Provide support as necessary for initiatives across the Enterprise within the scope of influence.


Communicates on a regular basis with staff, peers and business partners and on an occasional basis with senior leaders.
Tailors communication of analysis, project results, and other business initiatives to audience.
Communicates technical topics to non-technical audiences.
Leads group discussions with primary working group.
Creates formal written communication such as memos or presentations.
Able to influence and collaborate with peers and partners to take actions to enhance business outcomes.


Staff responsibilities are likely to include direct management of a small team of individual contributors.
Acquisition, retention, and development of talent for assigned unit.
Execute and communicate talent development processes, including performance and personal development goals.
Succession planning and talent assessment recommendations.
Performance management.
Support staff engagement cross Enterprise initiatives.
Mentor less experienced talent across the Enterprise.
Onboard new employees and interns in unit.
Support various training and skill development initiatives across Segment and the Enterprise.
May provide support for recruiting efforts and candidate talent assessment efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required.
5 years of comprehensive quantitative analysis experience required.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

College degree in STEM related field.
Experience in leading, designing and implementing advancements in Business Technology processes/systems or related work.
Experience partnering with cross functional teams to solution requirements in order to advance Business Technology processes/systems.
Experience leveraging current technology offerings to modernize, streamline, simplify, automate and integrate Business Technology processes/systems.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize commitments, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, quality-oriented environment is required.
Understanding of property casualty insurance products and industry
Demonstrated ability in actuarial, quantitative analysis or statistical concepts.
Ability to drive innovative solutions to overcome challenging problems.
Strong organizational skills and flexibility in guaranteeing that projects are correctly resourced, managed and delivered.
Ability to adjust and adapt to the day-to-day challenges of running large projects while still delivering on commitments.
Demonstrated leadership capability and coaching skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills .
Ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality, impactful outcomes.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong knowledge of data, data warehousing, and data consumption for use in analytics, processes and reporting a plus.
Relevant recent experience in the latest advancements in automation and new technologies and the diligence to apply these to solve business problems a plus.
Experience in Cloud technologies and processes a plus.
