About the job

This position is with the Office of Environmental and Energy Programs (OEEP), the department that leads Agency sustainability policy, target-setting, reporting, and project/program development and implementation. The Port Authority was the first US transportation agency to align with the Paris Climate Agreement, and this position will play an instrumental role in helping the Agency achieve its climate action ambitions. The Environmental Sustainability Manager (ESM) will support OEEP in setting and overseeing agency-wide environmental strategy, reporting and communication on sustainability, and implementing related sustainability programs. In particular, the ESM will be focused on efforts to embed environmental sustainability into the culture, systems and processes of the Agency, including initiatives around sustainability materiality and program design, and helping design and oversee actions focused on greenhouse gas emission mitigation, including managing the Agency’s greenhouse gas inventory.

Another focus will be managing internal and external environmental sustainability communications including sustainability/climate disclosure. Other strategic programs could include finalization and implementation of the Agency Climate Action Plan, frameworks to institutionalize climate action in business operations and capital allocation, advancing development of an Agency Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) platform, green procurement, green leasing, and tracking of non-physical climate risks.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of OEEP, the ESM will have access to senior leadership and collaboration with the Director of the department, and will be collaborating extensively with other program managers within OEEP and across the Agency. The ESM will also be the key point of contact for consultants managing the Greenhouse Gas inventory and the Climate Action Planning process.
