*Veterinarian Assistant *

*Purpose: *

Our Registered technicians and veterinary assistants are vital to ensuring that our animal patients receive the best possible care and attention. In order to care for our patients efficiently, every veterinarian needs the best registered technician to keep operations running smoothly. As a vet tech, you’ll play a huge role in administering care to our animal patient’s needs. Our veterinary technicians also provides animal care by discussing client needs, conducting basic vitals examinations and diagnostic procedures, inducing and assisting during operations, feeding and caring for animals, maintaining supplies and equipment, and maintaining records.

*Duties & Responsibilities*

· Help clients by assisting Veterinarians in patient care and medical treatments including but not limited to: medication administration, vaccine administration, acquiring laboratory samples, processing in-house and reference lab samples, anesthesia induction and monitoring, surgical preparation, hospitalized patient care, critical /emergency care and triage

· Identify and work patiently with clients in varying emotional states

· Compassionate and gentle care of patients

· Check in clients, take medical history, obtain patient vital signs

· Fill prescriptions

· Discharge patients

· Client education

· Educate and train assistants and caretakers

· Assist in cleaning the hospital including but not limited to: laundry, floors, taking out the trash and recycling, cleaning treatment areas, exam rooms, kennels, bathrooms and kitchen

· Answer phones and make appointments as needed

· Relay appropriate information to/from clients to doctors and/or management

· Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record

· Computer skills: Able to use Windows based computer systems, word processing, email, web search and other skills needed to effectively use the practice management software program

· Proper Animal Handling skills

· Laboratory – running in-house laboratory equipment

· Other laboratory tests such as: urinalysis dip stick, fecal examination, blood smears, ear cytology and skin cytology

· Digital radiography

· Venipuncture and catheter placement

· Medication knowledge and preparation

· Emergency procedures

· Ultrasound – assist with restraint during procedure

· Laser therapy procedures

· Surgical Assistance – surgical suite and patient preparation, monitoring anesthesia after completion of training, post-operative recovery of patient

· Hospitalized patient care

· Safety Protocols

· Cleaning standards

· Client communication – both in person and over the telephone

· Client Education – both in person and over the telephone

· Dental cleaning and procedures – assisting after completing training including dental radiology, gum tissue suturing

· Pharmacy – filling medication during appointments and upon client request

· Strong Communication skills both verbal and written

· Exam room assistant – collecting pertinent patient history, physical examination and client education

· Handling controlled substances – only with Certificate of Controlled Substance Handling

* Ability to work in a fast paced environment & remain organized
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand on feet for long length of time

*Qualifications*

· High School Degree or G.E.D. Required

· Prior experience in a veterinary hospital setting or veterinary schooling (preferred but not required)

· Active State of California RVT license ( required)

· Bachelor’s degree a plus. Certificate of completion from an AVMA accredited school of Veterinary Technology preferred

· Positive attitude, reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented with a great work ethic

· Professional appearance as stated in the Employee Manual

· Solid communication skills both written and verbal

· Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise

· Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure

*Requirements & Skills *

· Organization: Must be well organized, problem solving orientated, time-management focused and decision-making skilled

· Attention to Detail: Must pay attention to what he/she is doing so that tasks are being completed accurately and efficiently

· Honesty and Integrity: The Registered technician has to communicate open and honestly with the Administrative team as well as Pawsh Place team members

· Communication: Strong, clear, and precise communication is a must when in the Registered technician position. The ability to communicate clearly what our mission is and what is expected out of team members is a must

· Confidentiality: Understanding that access to confidential staff and business information will be given and privacy maintenance of this information is required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Education:
* Associate (Required)

Experience:
* Veterinary Experience: 2 years (Preferred)
* Veterinary Technician Experience: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:
* Veterinary Technician Certification (Preferred)
