Experienced Manager, Sustainability & ESG
The ESG Manager is responsible for supporting BDO’s Environmental Social & Governance (ESG) Center of Excellence, both with respect to the firm’s ESG strategy and ongoing evolution and implementation, and in the ESG services and solutions we provide to our clients. Working across the organization, the Manager will help to advance corporate ESG efforts, projects, data, monitoring and reporting, as well as in the development and execution of ESG-related client deliverables.
The individual in this role will work, at the direction of the ESG Senior Directors, to support efforts contributing to the advancement and progress of the ESG strategies and services within the ESG Center of Excellence.
Job Duties
- Assists in the continual planning, implementation, and evolution of the ESG strategy, material priorities and initiatives
- Manages projects that align with the firm’s ESG strategy and goals and key ESG-related initiatives
- Collaborates with and assists internal stakeholders across both core business services and client-facing practice groups
- Undertakes research projects and benchmarking analysis as needed on ESG-related topics and themes
- Provides summaries, evaluations and analysis on relevant policy or market-related CSR and ESG developments and trends
- Assists the ESG corporate and service strategy teams with the construction and maintenance of project plans, and tracking of progress
- Serves as the point of contact for the ESG COE on screening of ESG requests from internal and external stakeholders
- Serves as the primary resource for any/all ESG data & analytics; assists with the collection and management of enterprise ESG data, qualitative and quantitative KPIs, and benchmarking guidelines
- Develops a central data repository and strong internal controls for capturing and housing BDO’s ESG data; streamlines the input of that data from cross-functional data owners; works directly with the data owners to ensure they have a solid understanding of reporting needs and are providing all required data
- Assists with the development and publication of the firm’s annual Sustainability report in alignment with key reporting frameworks such as GRI, SBTi, SASB/IIRC(VRF), CDP, TCFD, WEF/IBC, Higg/MSI, UN SDGs, etc. as appropriate
- Assists with responses to key ESG surveys and ratings agencies and and assist with performing ongoing due diligence and regular monitoring of BDO’s ESG scores
- Liaises between ESG COE Leaders and Marketing and Communications on the development and review of client-facing materials and channels, such as collateral materials, website, pursuit materials, thought leadership and impact report; internal and communications to internal stakeholders; and ESG Sharepoint and Teams resources
- Prepares, edits, and proofreads comment letter responses, reports and client presentations and other market-facing deliverables
- Helps support regular communication and reporting of progress to Executive Team and Board of Directors
- Works with ESG COE team and Learning and Development to assist with the creation and delivery of ESG educational and training materials to BDO employees and Partners
- Liaises with third-party consultants, software providers, and associations as needed
- Works closely, but independently, under the direction of and in collaboration with Senior Directors and Partners in the ESG Center of Excellence
- Tracks and monitors the rapidly changing ESG landscape – across leading regulatory developments, finance indicators, SEC data reviews & updates, and ESG accounting metrics, as well as public pressure and market sentiment
- Other duties as required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Communications, or Sustainability/Environmental Science, required
- Master’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Communications, or Sustainability/Environmental Science, preferred
Experience
- Seven (7) or more years of professional experience with increasing responsibilities, required; experiencein professional services, preferred
- Significant experience in project and data management and data analytics, required
- Three (3) or more years of experience in sustainability, ESG, CSR or similar fields, preferably with a multinational organization, required
- Three (3) or more years of experience in project plan development, management, and implementation, required
- Demonstrated experience in sustainability and ESG and a strong understanding of key topics, reporting frameworks and organizations (e.g., GRI, SBTi, SASB, CDP, TCFD, Ecovadis, etc.) across multiple sectors/industries, preferred
- ESG strategy development and/or work with rating agencies and the reporting process, preferred
- Experience interfacing with clients and clear understanding of voice of customer, preferred
License/Certification
- ESG/sustainability certification, preferred

- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, required
- Familiarity with ESG reporting technology, preferred

- Solid understanding of ESG targets and putting processes in place to advance those initiatives

- Strong program management and organizational skills, including the ability to create work plans, manage workstreams, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage communication across multiple levels and functional areas of the organization
- A strong team player, with a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and maturity, and comfortable working collaboratively, virtually, and autonomously
- Driven self-starter with a proactive approach to serving professionals at all levels and a strong aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis, research, and project management
- Excellent communication and networking skills – able to effectively manage and influence senior leaders as well as a broad range of internal and client facing professionals
- Thorough understanding of project management and data management and analytics
- Executive presence and strong business acumen with a focus on achieving, tracking, and measuring results
- Ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines, managing multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data; and establish action plans based on the analysis
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience and comfort interacting with senior leaders and decision-makers
- Accountable, with a strong sense of ownership and attention to detail
Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
Range: $140,000 - $160,000
