The Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) Division in Azusa, CA is seeking a Specialty Engineering Manager 2 to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position will lead a growing statement of work within the Hardware Engineering and have responsibility for establishing, maintaining, and enabling consistency across the organization and programs. This includes ensuring all activities on programs are aligned to the functional objectives and policies and practice adhere. The candidate will also support developing organizational strategies implementing across organization. The candidate will be responsible for functional management of the specialty engineering group of ~ 15 encompassing parts, materials, and processes (PM&P), reliability, contamination, systems safety, radiation hardness, and survivability engineering in support of unit and system design, analysis and test areas. The selected candidate will be responsible for deployment of resources to programs, maintaining department processes, customer interfaces, mentoring, performance evaluation, coordinating activities, staffing, and career development of department members. In this role, this person is responsible for the overall technical performance of the Specialty Engineering organization including part and material specification, part control, interface with parts entry system for configuration management, specialty engineering analysis products and support to program CDRL and SDRL inputs. The position requires approximately 80% direct space program support and 20% for functional management. The successful applicant will require a technical understanding and experience in supply chain management (SCM) support, as well as experience with hardware design. The candidate should have project management experience in a team environment, including budget management. Candidate will interface with multiple disciplines such as program management, electrical, mechanical and system engineering, procurement, supply base/subcontractors, integration & test, and manufacturing. Specific assignment may include one or more of the following: PM&P including qualification, PM&P board chairmanship; reliability test regimen design and implementation; Contamination analysis and implementation; signal conditioning and mixed signal design; product development team leadership; remote sensing and IR/visible focal planes procurement and integration. The candidate must be capable of flowing down and/or deriving requirements from higher-level specifications, performing trade studies, and generating process and material documents. Additional responsibilities may be assigned commensurate with performance or due to business needs.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Metallurgy, Applied Mathematics, or other S.T.E.M. discipline & 5 years of related experience
• Experience developing and delivering hardware subsystems/equipment, or conduct of one or more specialty engineering disciplines (see above) in support of such delivery
• 3 years of leadership of project and/or tiger teams
• Proficiency in at least one of the following disciplines: parts, materials, and processes (PM&P); reliability; signal conditioning and mixed signal design; product development team leadership; remote sensing and IR/visible focal planes procurement and integration; plus, formal anomaly investigation and troubleshooting experience (ex. FRACAS, RCCA)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tool suite
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance (US Citizenship Required)

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Metallurgy, Applied Mathematics, or closely related engineering or science discipline, with > seven years’ experience developing and delivering spaceborne radio frequency (RF) or infrared (IR) remote sensing equipment.
Experience with data acquisition subsystem (DAS), component/part design (expert in at least one of these three), formal anomaly investigation and troubleshooting experience (FRACAS, RCA&CA, FRB).
Familiarity with reliability and/or radiation analysis tools.
Familiarity with management of capital and processes for the following laboratory types: failure analysis; x-ray radiography; cleanroom assembly and test for hybrid microcircuits.
Expert in one of the following disciplines: component design, test, and analysis; focal plane interface and signal conditioning; reliability modeling and probability of success prediction; failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA); single event effects (SEE); micrometeoroid damage assessment and mitigation.
Proven budget management experience
Familiarity with design & analysis processes for DOD and/or NASA space programs.
Current & active Clearance: Secret, Top Secret, SCI/SSBI.
